Students demonstrate STEM content knowledge representative of STEM literacy outcomes that prepare them for the next level of learning and work.

The students at our institution, Somerset Gables, can demonstrate their knowledge and learning outcomes through required rubrics used in all assignments. Students can monitor what and how they are learning. Then, they can make changes to ensure that goals are being met and ensuring that their groups stay on track and are all participating. During the 2019-2020 school years, educators began implementing the five step engineering process assessment rubric to ensure that students understand what is expected of them in each project. After completing those evaluations, students can see what their teachers observed in that same rubric and what areas they need to work further on.
Overall, our students and educators work closely to ensure that the material being learned is meaningful and helping them grow. Through collaborative discussions and hands-on experiences, our students can make connections and take their work seriously. An area in need of improvement is seeking ways to help our lower grade students understand how to self-reflect. They still need much guidance in completing the rubric, so it is a skill that will begin to be worked on from early on and strengthened in the upper grades.
